CurePSP has created The Guide for Persons Living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy to assist the person with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) or corticobasal degeneration (CBD), as well as their caregiver, family members and friends as they travel the challenging path of the diseases.
The purpose of The Guide is not to offer ultimate answers on the causes or reasons for these terrible diseases, as helpful as that might be, because at this time, the scientific and medical community still does not have the answers. We just don't know what causes PSP and CBD or why one person in a family gets the disease, and the rest do not. The purpose is mainly to try to meet the needs (both with information and support) of the individuals - patients with PSP/CBD and their caregivers - while they are struggling down their personal paths of living with the disease.
CurePSP-The Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy is truly grateful for the support of the Peebler PSP Research Foundation, a family foundation, for the publication and distribution of The Guide. Chuck Peebler, the founder of the Peebler Research Foundation, and his family are currently on their own personal path of living and care giving with PSP. In addition, we want to thank Mrs. Mary Kirkey for her generous support of this publication in memory of her husband, Robert, who died from PSP in 2006.
We hope that you will find The Guide to be useful and that in the very near future, we will have the opportunity to revise it with the words; we have now found a prevention or cure!
